Located in the quiet suburban side of Cambridge, Ontario, the artist’s residence is the perfect getaway for a visual artist. The ridge-side single-occupant residence features a central entrance courtyard around which the layout of the entire dwelling unfolds.
The glazed walls surrounding the courtyard provide a view of the art studio from almost all the spaces of the house, serving as a reminder for the artist of his/her mission to bring as many of their artistic visions to life as possible during their six week long stay.
The layout of the plan is oriented in accordance to the solar geometry of the location. The bedroom, for instance, features a horizontal strip window facing the East in order to draw light in during the morning. The kitchen/dining area as well as the living room area on the other hand have windows facing the West and South in order to stay warm and cosy all day long and provide the occupant with a sunset view every evening
